2015 OhioDance Festival and Conference

On April 24-26, 2015, OhioDance, the state-wide dance network organization, co-sponsored its regional festival with BalletMet Columbus. Sessions were held at the studios and performance space at BalletMet, 322 Mt. Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH.
2015 OhioDance Festival and Conference presented Dance Matters: Engaging Communities with guest artist Liz Lerman.
On Friday, April 24, students from Ohio Public Schools performed in the Young Artists’ Concert.
The guest artist, Liz Lerman is a renowned choreographer, performer, writer, educator and speaker. Lerman has shared her process with everyone from shipbuilders to physicists, construction workers to ballerinas. She is the recipient of numerous honors, including a 2002 MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship. Participants had the opportunity to attend a book reading of Hiking the Horizantal . Lerman taught a master class on choreographic tools and served as the festival’s guest speaker reflecting on her life-long exploration of dance as a vehicle for human insight and understanding.
OhioDance Evening Performance featured professional companies and choreographers, and pre-professional companies. Each year OhioDance awards excellence in the field of dance. This year awards were presented to Tom Evert, for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the dance art form and Karen King-Cavin, for outstanding contributions to the advancement of dance education.
