DANCE MATTERS: 2020 Virtual OhioDance Festival

2020 Virtual OhioDance Festival
OhioDance held a Virtual Dance Festival April 24-26, 2020. There were video sessions with guest artists and video links posted throughout the weekend.

On March 12, 2020, as Ohio Governor DeWine announced measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus by school closings and ceasing of gatherings of 100 or more in Ohio, OhioDance quickly cancelled the in-person festival. Then quickly regrouped to offer a Virtual Festival with links to discussions, classes, and performances through the weekend.

The schedule for the pre-recorded sessions:
Friday, April 24, 2020 from 11:00am-12:00pm (E.T.) – Virtual Festival Introduction with Rodney Veal, Jane D’Angelo and Kara Komarnitsky. Mary Verdi-Fletcher discusses what the company is working on during Covid-19.  Candace Feck and Jess Cavender discuss script writing, documentary filmmaking, editing and motion capture for The OhioDance Documentary Film “Ohio: A State of Dance”.

Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 1:00-2:00pm (E.T.) Guest artist, James Gregg, will chat about his choreographic process and work.

 

 

Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 4:00pm-5:00pm (E.T.) Gregory King and Olivia Atley will discuss diversity in dance and Tenure and Race.

OhioDance would like to acknowledge Leah Wander.  Leah is the recipient of the 2020 Maggie Patton Dance Scholarship and OhioDance Outstanding Dance Student Award. She is a graduating high school student and will be attending Ohio State University as a double major in dance and political science. Leah was nominated by Generations Performing Arts Center studio owner, Angie Haver. Angie states “Leah is an amazing person as well as an exceptional dancer and a loving, caring student. Leah serves the community through WARM providing Thanksgiving meals, Christmas gifts as well as helping to make blankets for foster children.” Leah will receive a monetary award and a membership to OhioDance. We wish Leah well in her endeavors.OhioDance will share video links of performances and classes from those that will teach and perform in 2021, as well as others.
