The 2014 OhioDance Festival and Conference

OhioDance, the leading state-wide organization supporting diverse dance practices, co-sponsored its annual festival April 25-27, 2014 at BalletMet Columbus.
The theme and title of the conference, Dance Matters: Connections and Collaborations, celebrates movement-centered alliances for the stage and the classroom, among dance artists, educators, and supporters.
Special events included a free-to-the-public Young Artists’ Concert performed by students from Ohio public schools, the Moving Works Showcase featuring choreographers and dancers from across the state, auditions for dancers, special awards that will recognize significant contributions to dance in Ohio, an end-of-festival dance party, and a master class and performance by nationally-recognized guest artist Bill Evans.
Bill Evans is a performer, teacher, choreographer, lecturer, administrator, movement analyst, writer, adjudicator and dance advocate with a uniquely varied and comprehensive background of experiences and accomplishments, including the creation of the Evans Modern Dance Technique.
Event schedule included:
- April 25-27, 2014 — Ongoing classes, workshops, and discussions for movers and non-movers
- April 25, 2014 10:30am-11:30am — Young Artists Concert (free to the public)
- April 26, 2014 — Bill Evans Masterclass
- April 26, 2014 — OhioDance Awards presented to Mary Verdi-Fletcher for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the dance artform and Kelly Berick for outstanding contributions to the advancement of dance education.
