of groundedness and an overall sense of wellbeing.
Modern Dance
Ongoing class meets Saturdays 10-11 at the Presbyterian Church
$10/class
We begin each class with floor exercises to awaken, stretch and
strengthen the middle body. We then progress to standing and traveling

2:30 pm to 4:45 pm - Big Apple Routine
5:00 pm to 6:00 pm - California Routine
$15 for Adults ~ $5 off for Students & SwingColumbus Members
This will be an intermediate to advanced workshop. Be prepared
to move pretty quickly through the choreography. There will be quite
a bit of material to get through in three hours.
The Big Apple and California Routines are a major part of swing
dancing history. Both dances were originally choreographed and performed
by a group of the original swing dancers, Whitey's Lindy Hoppers.
The Big Apple was featured in the 1939 movie, Keep Punching and
the California that most of us perform today is a modification (we've
taken out the aerials) of the last part of the Hellzapoppin' routine
from the movie of the same name in 1941.
Team SwingColumbus performs both routines as combined piece with
a section we call "The Ohio Bridge." You can see the combined
piece HERE in a video of the team performing during halftime at
an Ohio State men's basketball game. Many members of the team will
be on hand to help teach the choreography. Come join us and learn
a piece of your history. Don't forget to stick around for our Monthly

Adapted Dance Education Program now offered at Dublin
Dance Centre & Gymnastics!
Adapted Dance Education is a program designed especially for children
with special needs. Based on Dublin Dance Centre & Gymnastics’
current Creative Dance program, Adapted Dance will provide your
child with the opportunity to explore the world of dance while also
developing important cognitive and physical skills. Upon request,
this class will be linked to your child’s IEP goals.
Anne Browning, the Adapted Dance Education Coordinator, has been
dancing since she was 3 years old. She has studied all dance art
forms but spent her later years concentrating on Jazz. Anne attended
OSU to study Dance and Special Education. Anne has been an Intervention
Specialist for the last 9 years, and has worked with special needs
children from ages 2-18 in and out of the school setting. She is
so excited to expand her love of children and movement to all kids
at DDC&G. “I am so lucky to be living out my dream of dancing
and teaching now at DDC&G”. “There is not a day in my life without
dance in our house and I can’t wait to bring my energy to my students!” |
