The Wizard of Oz premiered in 2001 to sellout audiences. Lemmo recalls
wanting to create a new storybook work with numerous main characters
as well as supporting roles. He decided on The Wizard of Oz, thinking
it would be perfect for Canton Ballet’s young company. |

| 23-24 | DOUBLE/TAKE is an evening length dance performance that showcases Meghan Durham and Karl Rogers as Columbus-based artists that maintain strong ties with the larger dance community. The performance features three commissioned works from nationally recognized artists, including two original duets – one each by Bebe Miller (OH/NY) and Lisa Race (CT), as well as a repertory duet by Colleen Thomas (NY). Two solo premieres, one choreographed and performed each by Meghan Durham and Karl Rogers, will complete the evening. | 1 | The Dancing Wheels Company & School is uniting some of Cleveland’s most notable arts organizations into a night of swingin’ sounds and sizzling moves in a concert entitled And All That's Jazz, being held May 1, 2010 at the State Theatre at Playhouse Square. Set to the music of the illustrious Duke Ellington and the Big Band Era, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will be on hand to provide live on-stage music throughout the concert. The night will include a world premiere work by choreographer Robert Wesner, a performance by the acclaimed children’ choir The Singing Angels, and an inspiring performance by the students from The School of Dancing Wheels— proving once again anything is possible through the arts! Also part of this concert will be the world premiere of Far East of the Blues, a new work commissioned from one of the world’s most notable choreographers of our time, Professor Donald McKayle. Professor McKayle, named “one of America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasures”, is best known for his choreography in the film Bed Knobs and Broomsticks, Broadway’s Sophisticated Ladies and Raisin, and his television work with such notables as Bill Cosby, Cher, Harry Belafonte, and Tina Turner. This new work will be treasured by both The Dancing Wheels Company and the City of Cleveland, as it will enhance our rich artistic and cultural history. Directly following the performance, we will be holding a benefit gala in the illustrious lobby of the State Theatre. Proceeds from the event will support The Dancing Wheels Company & School’s educational and outreach programming, which now serves over 1,000 students yearly throughout the greater Cleveland and Akron area, and more than 75,000 children and adults with and without disabilities nationwide each year. Tickets to the performance will be $25, $15, and $12 for groups
of 12 or more; Dress Circle tickets to the performance and benefit

| 15-16 | 2010 OhioDance Festival and Conference The OhioDance Festival and Conference is an annual
statewide celebration of dance through workshops, discussions and
performance. A highlight of this year is an Imagination Conversation held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m., Hallock Auditorium in the Adam Joseph Lewis Center for Environmental Studies. This is part of a broader two-year Imagination Conversation initiative of Lincoln Center Institute (LCI). LCI will catalyze a nationwide series of state events on the topic of imagination, why it matters and how to develop it in our institutions. The findings of this effort will contribute to a culminating final summit in 2011. OhioDance and Oberlin College in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Education are pleased to host one of Ohio's imagination conversations. The distinguished panelists from Oberlin College are: Mark Braford, Professor of Biology and Neuroscience; Julia Christensen, artist, writer and visiting Assistant Professor of the Emerging Arts; David W. Orr, Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics; Lynn Powell, award-winning poet and Oberlin resident. The panel will be moderated by Ann Cooper Albright, performer, choreographer, feminist scholar, and Professor of Dance and Theater at Oberlin College. The Showcase held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 7:30 in Hall Auditorium. This year’s showcase will feature: Professional companies; Dancing Wheels Company, Hixon Dance, Like You Mean It, Marquez Dance Project, Pooja Kumar, and Verb Ballets. College dance programs represented are: Grey Castro, from Oberlin College and dance students from Cuyahoga Community College. Pre-professional companies performing are BalletMet Columbus, Hathaway Brown, and Toledo Ballet. This year's awards recipients are Nusha Martynuk, Choreographer, Professor of Dance and Chair of Theatre and Dance at Oberlin College, for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the dance art form, and Kaye Davis, Associate Professor of Dance, at the University of Akron, for outstanding contributions to the advancement of dance education.
