The Saturday evening Showcase tickets are available at the door. $12. OhioDance members, students, seniors. $15 all others. Cash and check only. You can also order them ahead of time by downloading the brochure below and mailing payment or paying online with a credit card below.
The location is at the corner of 15th street and N. High Street. For more detailed directions there is a map of campus at http://www.osu.edu/map/building.php?building=106. Parking is next door #288 at the Union garage.
A reception
for the OhioDance awards will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 5:30pm-7:00pm
at Sullivant Hall in the Rotunda.The award for Outstanding Contributions
to the Advancement of Dance Education will be presented to Louise
Guthman, Associate Professor Emerita, OSU’s Department
of Dance. Ms. Guthman has an active and varied career in every aspect
of theater production. She has been the lighting designer for many modern,
classical, and folk dance companies, as well as for many musicals, operas,
and dramatic productions. She was a lighting designer and production stage
manager with Sol Hurok Concerts for many years, working with several companies,
especially Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, with whom she also toured extensively
both here and abroad. She was head of the production area and lighting
designer for OSU'S Department of Dance between 1974 to 1988. Tickets are
$15/adults $8/students

a senior at Hathaway Brown, is the $1,000 National City Scholarship winner!
Classes,
workshops, adjudicated Showcase, Awards Reception!
The
master classes, workshops, and panel discussions are Saturday 9:00 a.m.-5:00
p.m. The audition for companies is Saturday, May 31, 12:00pm-1:45pm. All
events held in Sullivant Hall.
The Choreographers' Showcase is Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sullivant
Theatre at OSU. The Showcase will feature some of Ohio’s most sophisticated
choreography and performance talent representing the diversity and excellence
of dance in Ohio. Choreographers
works by Rodney Brown, Nicole Cafera, Niecy Crawley, Sara Krajewski, Marlene
Leber, Angelo Lemmo, Natalie Marrone, Amy Orr and Cara Surico. Students
from Canton Ballet will perform.
Audition Saturday May 31 from 12:00pm-1:45pm
This is the
audition for dancers attending the OhioDance Festival. Auditions will
be conducted by recruiters from the following: The Ohio State University
Department of Dance; The Dancing Wheels Company; Michael Groomes of SMAG
Dance Collective, a Contemporary Fusion Dance Company; Aaron Kint of bacKspace;
Mario de la Nuez from de la Arts Place.
Audition Format
and Requirements
Please take a class either ballet or modern class from 10:15am-11:30am before the audition for warm-up
Ballet Criteria: Adagio center work, center combination with multiple pirouettes, grand allegro, pointe and/or men's combination, if requested by recruiters.
Contemporary Criteria: Spine work: contractions, spinal succession and tilts, rolling to, from and on the floor, tilts, spirals, recovery, fall and rebound. Combination with big directional changes, turns, small jumps and falls. Structured improvisation exercise.
Repertory Segment: Movement phrases and/or choreography from the repertoire taught. Ballet criteria is included in repertory segment.
Cuts will be made after each company does ten minutes of repertory. (the students who are cut may stay to watch)
Please Note: There will be several dance techniques and styles represented at the audition.
Audition Attire Students
should be dressed in appropriate audition attire. Ballet slippers are
required for the ballet component. If you have had at least three years
of pointe at an advanced level and feel comfortable wearing pointe shoes
for the entire ballet portion of the audition, you may do so. Students
must remove shoes for the modern component. No warm-ups or sweats allowed.
It is suggested students wear convertible tights.
